ROMANCE IN A MIXOLYDIAN
A romance is characterized by the form A - B - A: that is exposition of the theme (A), development (B) and reprise or repetition of the theme (A). The central part (B) isnt a real second theme, since the used material is extracted from the first part.
I have composed the exposition of this piece in 1985, but only in October 2002 I have started again and finished the job. I have primarily used the mixolydian
mode, even if you can feel mentions of the lydian
and phrygian
one. The character is enough sweet and romantic (sometimes a little sad in the development). Besides the exposure is characterized by a constant counterpointistic dialogue among the two instruments, even if the melody of the flute more stand out against that of the piano, while the development (somehow rhythmically more interesting) often sees them alternate themselves.
