FANTASIA 1984

MY COMPOSITION

The theme of the piece, written for an unusual instrumental body of two pianos and a violin, describes the grotesque life of Smith before its meeting with Julia. The grotesque life of the whole society. The central part, more romantic, represents their love, their will to live, their illusions. But when they are captured, there cannot be return to previous life; by now both know what means hope, desire, happiness. They cannot pretend that has not happened anything. The drama is underlined by the syncopations (a voice is always in advance or late in comparison to the others) with which the repetition of the theme introduces itself (reprise). The betrayal is instead represented by the repetition of the theme of the central part, simultaneously played in four different and conflicting tonalities click for know more on tonality e polytonality, and accompanied in a still different tonality.

Nothing will be as before.

The coda (final part of the piece) recovers, also in its drama, a little of hope, at once truncated by the sudden ending (almost as if it were the cut of a head).
